The people, the pledge, and the story behind the name.
Welcome to salt&pepper safari!
We believe in the transformative power of community and education while travelling. Our vision is not only to offer unforgettable safaris that showcase the breathtaking nature and cultural diversity of Tanzania, but to prioritise supporting Tanzania’s communities in a sustainable way.
We are committed to showing you an honest and educating insight into Tanzania, its unique cultural heritage and its wildlife. 50% of our profit from tours and safaris goes directly to social projects focusing on education.
Our story
In 2023, the salt&pepper safari journey began — not just across Tanzania’s breathtaking landscapes, but into the heart of the tourism industry itself. During our first safari experience, we met many tourists who lacked awareness of the local culture and the real impact of their travels. We were struck by how much of the tourism revenue flows to large foreign companies, leaving local communities with little benefit.
That realisation sparked a mission: to reimagine tourism as a force for good.
We brought together like-minded people who believe in creating meaningful change and offering authentic experiences. Our company was founded on fair pay, social responsibility and cultural respect. We work with local NGOs, make sure our team is treated and paid fairly, and educate our guests about the real dynamics of tourism in Tanzania.
By choosing to travel with us, you’re not only exploring the wonders of Tanzania — you’re also supporting the people who call it home.
Why the name?
It was born from a moment that made us smile — and made us think about the tourism industry. While on safari, a curious guest asked what to do if she suddenly encountered a lion. Our guides reassured her that it was extremely rare, but she kept asking. Eventually, someone joked: “Well, you just add a little salt, a little pepper, and say bon appétit.”
It was a lighthearted moment, but it revealed something important: many travellers arrive excited, but with little understanding of the culture, environment or impact of their journey.
At salt&pepper safari, we believe tourism should do more than entertain — it should educate, empower and create lasting social impact. Our guests don’t just walk away inspired — they walk away informed. That’s why our safaris are designed to connect travellers with the real Tanzania: cultural respect, wildlife education, and working alongside locally founded Tanzanian NGOs.
Every safari with us is crafted to leave a lasting impression on you, and a meaningful contribution to the people and places you visit. Because when you add the right ingredients — respect, education and a little humour — you get something truly meaningful.
