7 Day Safari in Tanzania

7 Day Safari in Tanzania
Driving Safari 7 Days / 6 Nights Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro
Safari Package

Our fullest northern circuit: Tarangire, three nights in the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Seven days built around the most time we give the Serengeti on any of our set itineraries: three full nights and two complete days, either side of a night in Tarangire and a night on the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

Six nights out in total: one in Arusha, one near Tarangire, three in the Serengeti, and one near the Ngorongoro Crater, before returning to Arusha for departure. It's the itinerary we point people to when the Serengeti itself, rather than tick-box park-hopping, is the main reason for the trip.

The price below is a starting point and moves with season, group size and accommodation level, from comfortable mid-range camps up to Ultra Luxury properties like Melia Serengeti's Savannah Panoramic rooms. Tell us your dates and numbers and we'll quote it properly.

Your Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary

Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, with the rest of the day free to settle in ahead of an early start the next morning. Your guide will run through the full week's itinerary over dinner or the following breakfast.

Overnight: Arusha Planet Lodge / Mount Meru Hotel / Gran Melia, depending on tierMeal Plan: Dinner and breakfast

A drive of a little under two hours south-west brings you into Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive. Tarangire is built around the Tarangire River, the only permanent water source for miles in the dry months, which draws some of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania along its banks. The park's centuries-old baobab trees give the landscape a character unlike anywhere else on the route.

Ancient BaobabsSome of Tarangire's baobabs are estimated at over 500 years old — watch for elephants stripping bark from the trunk for its stored moisture.
Overnight: Farm of Dreams / Escarpment / Ngorongoro Oldeani, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

The drive crosses the Ngorongoro highlands before dropping onto the Serengeti's open plains. With three full nights ahead in the ecosystem, there's no need to rush this first day — game viewing continues along the drive in, and you'll have settled into camp well before dark.

Overnight: Osinon Camps / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti (Savannah Panoramic), depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A full day exploring the central Serengeti, home to the Seronera River valley and some of the most reliable big-cat sightings in the park. Lion prides are common here year-round, and leopards are regularly found resting in the sausage trees and acacias that line the river.

KopjesThe granite outcrops scattered across this part of the Serengeti are a favourite lion and leopard lookout point — always worth a slow pass.
Overnight: Osinon Camps / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti (Savannah Panoramic), depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

With a second full day in the Serengeti, your guide can range further, following recent sightings from other vehicles and camps or, during the migration months, tracking the movement of the wildebeest herds themselves. Three nights here is enough time to genuinely explore rather than just pass through.

Depending on the season and where the herds are, this can include a look at one of the Serengeti's river crossing points, or simply more time with the resident wildlife — elephant, giraffe, buffalo and the numerous plains game that make up the bulk of every day's sightings.

Overnight: Osinon Camps / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti (Savannah Panoramic), depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A final Serengeti game drive in the cooler early hours — usually the best time for predator activity — before the drive back up to the Ngorongoro highlands and down onto the crater floor itself for an afternoon game drive.

The crater is one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas in Africa, holding an estimated 25,000 large mammals within 260 square kilometres of grassland, swamp and soda lake. Lion, buffalo and wildebeest are common across the open floor, and the crater remains one of the last reliable places to see the black rhino.

Lunch at the Hippo PoolThe Ngoitokitok picnic site sits beside a resident hippo pod, and is a good spot to also watch for black kites and the crater's abundant birdlife.

A final relaxed morning before the drive back to Arusha and on to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. If your flight is later in the day, there's usually time to add a stop at a coffee farm or the Maasai market in Arusha on the way.

7 Day Safari in Tanzania — Frequently Asked Questions

How much of this trip is actually spent in the Serengeti?
You get three nights and two full days dedicated to the Serengeti, the most time of any of our set itineraries. It's the version we recommend if the Serengeti itself is the main reason you're coming.
What's the difference between the accommodation tiers?
The tiers reflect the lodges and camps used each night. The route, park time and vehicle are identical across all three — only where you sleep and eat changes.
Is three nights in the Serengeti overkill?
Not if the Serengeti is why you're coming. Two full days lets your guide follow recent sightings and, in migration season, actually track the herds rather than hoping to catch them on a single pass-through.
