6 Day Safari in Tanzania

6 Day Safari in Tanzania
Driving Safari 6 Days / 5 Nights Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro
Safari Package

An easy start in Arusha, then Tarangire, two nights in the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Six days that add a settling-in night in Arusha ahead of the same strong northern-circuit route: Tarangire, two nights in the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater. It's a good option if you'd rather not go straight from an overnight flight into your first game drive.

Five nights out in total: one in Arusha, one near Tarangire, two in the Serengeti, and one near the Ngorongoro Crater, before returning to Arusha for departure.

The price below is a starting point and moves with season, group size and accommodation level, from comfortable mid-range lodges up to Ultra Luxury properties like Melia Serengeti. Tell us your dates and numbers and we'll quote it properly.

Your Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary

You're met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. The rest of the day is yours to settle in, get over any jet lag, and go through the trip briefing with your guide before an early start tomorrow.

Overnight: Arusha Planet Lodge / Mount Meru Hotel / Gran Melia, depending on tierMeal Plan: Dinner and breakfast

The drive south-west to Tarangire takes a little under two hours, and the change in landscape from farmland to open acacia savannah is the first sign the trip has properly begun. The afternoon game drive is a strong opening act: Tarangire holds some of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania, and its ancient baobab trees give the park a character all its own.

Ancient BaobabsSome of Tarangire's baobabs are estimated at over 500 years old — elephants are often seen stripping bark from the trunk for the moisture stored inside.
Overnight: Farm of Dreams / Escarpment / Ngorongoro Oldeani, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

The route crosses the Ngorongoro highlands before descending onto the Serengeti's plains, with game viewing continuing along the way. The sensation of scale here — 14,750 square kilometres, much of it visible to the horizon at once — tends to surprise even well-travelled visitors.

Overnight: Tukaone Serengeti / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A full day of game driving across different parts of the Serengeti, timed around where the wildlife currently is. Depending on the season, this can put you in the path of the wildebeest migration; regardless of timing, resident lion, leopard, cheetah and elephant populations keep the sightings coming.

KopjesThe Serengeti's scattered granite outcrops are a favourite lion and leopard lookout — always worth a slow pass even when nothing is immediately visible.
Overnight: Tukaone Serengeti / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A last game drive in the Serengeti's cooler early hours — usually the best time for predator activity — before the drive back up to the Ngorongoro highlands. The shift from savannah to highland forest happens within a few hours and is a landscape change worth watching for.

Overnight: Farm of Dreams / Escarpment / Ngorongoro Oldeani, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

An early descent 610 metres onto the crater floor brings you into one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas in Africa — roughly 25,000 large mammals within 260 square kilometres of grassland, swamp and soda lake, enclosed by the crater walls on every side.

Lion, buffalo and wildebeest are common across the open floor, flamingos often gather at Lake Magadi, and the crater is one of the last reliable places to see the black rhino, alongside dense and well-studied spotted hyena clans.

Lunch at the Hippo PoolThe Ngoitokitok picnic site sits beside a resident hippo pod — also a good spot for the crater's birdlife.

By mid-afternoon you climb back out and drive to Arusha, arriving in the early evening for your onward flight or a final night before departure.

6 Day Safari in Tanzania — Frequently Asked Questions

How much of this trip is actually spent in the Serengeti?
You get two nights and a full day dedicated to the Serengeti. The extra night at the start, in Arusha, is there to let you settle in before the early starts begin.
What's the difference between the accommodation tiers?
The tiers reflect the lodges and camps used each night. The route, park time and vehicle are identical across all three — only where you sleep and eat changes.
Do we need the extra night in Arusha?
It's not essential, but it's a popular option for travellers arriving on an overnight flight, giving you a chance to rest and go through the trip briefing properly before the safari itself begins.
