Eight days built around real time in the Serengeti's Mara region — the part of the ecosystem the Great Migration's river crossings are named for — alongside Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and a last stop at Lake Manyara.
Seven nights out: one in Arusha, one near Tarangire, three in the Serengeti (two of them in the Mara area), one near the Ngorongoro Crater, before a final game drive through Lake Manyara on the way to the airport.

Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, with the rest of the day free to settle in. Your guide will run through the full week's itinerary before you set off the next morning.
A drive of a little under two hours south-west brings you into Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive. Tarangire is built around the Tarangire River, drawing some of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania during the dry months, and its centuries-old baobab trees give the landscape a character unlike anywhere else on the route.

The drive crosses the Ngorongoro highlands before dropping onto the Serengeti's southern plains, arriving at a camp in the central ecosystem in time for an afternoon game drive. With five nights ahead in the Serengeti and its migration corridors, there's no need to rush — this first night is about settling in.
The drive north continues into the Mara region of the Serengeti, the stretch of ecosystem the Great Migration is most famous for. Depending on the time of year, this is where the wildebeest and zebra herds gather before attempting a crossing of the Mara River — one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles anywhere in Africa.

A second full day in the Mara region, giving your guide time to follow recent reports from other vehicles and camps rather than relying on a single pass-through. Even outside migration season, this part of the Serengeti holds strong resident populations of lion, leopard and elephant along the river's tree line.
A game drive south back through the Serengeti, retracing the ecosystem's transition from open plains to the greener highland forest around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It's a full day of driving, but one that keeps producing sightings the whole way.
An early descent 610 metres onto the crater floor brings you into one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas in Africa — roughly 25,000 large mammals within 260 square kilometres of grassland, swamp and soda lake. Lion, buffalo and wildebeest are common across the open floor, and the crater remains one of the last reliable places to see the black rhino.
A last game drive on the way out, through Lake Manyara National Park — a compact park known for tree-climbing lions and large troops of baboon along its groundwater forest edge — before the drive to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
