Lemosho Route (8 Days)

Lemosho Route (8 Days)
Kilimanjaro Trek 8 Days / 7 Nights Uhuru Peak
Kilimanjaro Package

Our longest standard-scenery route, giving the best acclimatisation window of any of the popular paths.

The same quiet western approach as our 7-day Lemosho, with one extra night at Barafu Camp before the summit push. Of all our regularly-booked routes, this combination of Lemosho's gentle early profile and the extra acclimatisation night gives one of the strongest summit success rates.

It's the route we'd point most first-time high-altitude trekkers toward if time isn't the limiting factor.

Your Day-by-Day Kilimanjaro Itinerary

Tap a day to see the details

After a night at Arusha Planet Lodge, you're collected early and driven to the gate. Registration at Londorossi Gate, then a walk through dense montane rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (2,780m).

The forest thins into moorland as the trail climbs onto the Shira Plateau, reaching Shira 1 Camp (3,500m).

A shorter day crossing the plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m), with time to acclimatise and enjoy the volcanic scenery.

The trail climbs to Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp (3,900m), joining the Machame route.

Climb High, Sleep LowReaching 4,630m before sleeping at 3,900m is one of the most effective single days for altitude adjustment on the mountain.

A shorter day starting with the Barranco Wall scramble, followed by a gentler walk to Karanga Camp (3,995m).

A short, deliberately easy day up to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base for the summit attempt — this extra night compared to the 7-day version gives one more full day of acclimatisation before summit night.

A midnight departure and steady climb to Stella Point, then Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise, followed by the long descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m).

A final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where your certificate is issued before the drive back to Arusha, where a room is waiting at Arusha Planet Lodge for a hot shower and a final night before your onward journey.

Lemosho Route (8 Days) — Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be?
No technical climbing experience is required, but a reasonable level of fitness makes a real difference to how much you enjoy the days on the mountain. Regular walking or hiking beforehand is the best preparation.
What's your summit success rate on this route?
It varies by route and by how well you acclimatise, which is exactly why the extra day on longer itineraries genuinely helps — more time at altitude before the summit push meaningfully improves your odds.
Is 8 days overkill?
Not if summiting comfortably matters more to you than shaving off a day. It's a genuinely easier climb on the body than the 7-day version, for a modest difference in cost and time.
