6 Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari

6 Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari
Cross-Border Safari 6 Days / 5 Nights 2 Countries
Kenya & Tanzania Package

Masai Mara, Central Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, crossing overland from Nairobi to Arusha.

A six-day cross-border safari linking Kenya's Masai Mara with Tanzania's Central Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater — three of East Africa's best-known reserves on one continuous route, rather than two separate trips.

You start in Nairobi and end in Arusha, crossing overland at the Isebania border partway through, with a change of guide and vehicle as you move from Kenya into Tanzania. It's a genuinely different logistics chain from our Tanzania-only itineraries, run in partnership with a Kenya-side operator for the Masai Mara portion of the trip.

Pricing below reflects the real tiered rates for this route; exact per-person cost depends on your final lodge choice within each tier and your group size — tell us your dates and numbers and we'll confirm it properly.

An early pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport, with a scenic stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint on the way. You'll reach the Masai Mara around midday, check in, and have lunch before heading straight out for an afternoon game drive across some of the most famous savannah in Africa.

Rift Valley ViewpointThe drive out of Nairobi crosses the edge of the Great Rift Valley, with a stop built in for photos over the escarpment before the road drops toward the Mara.
Overnight: Mara Enkorok Safari Camp / Olive Bush Camp / Elewana Sand River Mara, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A full day in the Mara with a packed lunch out in the field, covering the Mara River area and the open plains the reserve is famous for. The Mara holds strong year-round populations of lion, cheetah, leopard and elephant, and if your dates line up with the wildebeest migration, this is also prime river-crossing territory.

Overnight: Mara Enkorok Safari Camp / Olive Bush Camp / Elewana Sand River Mara, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

After breakfast, the drive to the Isebania border takes three and a half to four hours. Immigration formalities on both sides are handled as part of the trip, and you'll meet your Tanzanian guide and vehicle around midday for the onward drive into Central Serengeti — about six hours, with game viewing built into the route through the Seronera area.

Crossing at IsebaniaThis is a well-used, routine border post for this exact route. Your guide handles the formalities; you'll just need your passport and Kenya/Tanzania visas ready.
Overnight: Tukaone Camps / Ang'ani Simba Camp / Serengeti Explorer, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A full day dedicated to the Seronera Valley, the heart of Central Serengeti and one of the most productive areas in the entire ecosystem for big cats. Lion, leopard and cheetah are all regularly seen here, alongside large elephant herds and a long list of resident plains game along the Seronera River.

Lion pride at a waterhole
Overnight: Tukaone Camps / Ang'ani Simba Camp / Serengeti Explorer, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A final morning game drive in the Serengeti before heading toward Ngorongoro, with an optional stop at Naabi Hill for a last panoramic view back over the plains you've just spent two days in. The drive climbs into the cooler Ngorongoro highlands, a genuine change in both temperature and scenery, ahead of tomorrow's crater descent.

Overnight: Omega View / Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp / Melia Ngorongoro Lodge, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

An early descent, around 6:00am, takes you 600 metres down onto the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a five-hour game drive across one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas in Africa — black rhino, hippo, flamingo and large lion prides are all regularly seen here. Lunch is taken by the Hippo Pool before the climb back out and the three to four hour drive to Arusha, arriving by around 5:00pm for your hotel or onward flight.

The Hippo PoolThe picnic spot at the Hippo Pool is one of the most reliable close-range hippo sightings on the whole route, and a good last stop before leaving the crater.

6 Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari — Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Kenya-Tanzania border crossing actually work?
You transfer by road to the Isebania border post, complete immigration on both sides, and are handed over to your Tanzanian guide and vehicle on the other side. It adds a couple of hours to that day's drive but is a routine, well-used crossing for this route.
Do we need two visas?
Yes — a Kenya visa and a Tanzania visa are both required and are not included in the price. Most nationalities can arrange both online in advance.
Is this a salt&pepper safari trip end to end?
The Tanzania portion (Central Serengeti and Ngorongoro) runs the way all our other safaris do. The Masai Mara portion is operated in partnership with a Kenya-based operator, since that's outside our own vehicle and guide network — ask us for the details when you enquire.
