Ten days that pair the northern safari circuit with real time to recover from it on a beach afterwards. Five days across Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, then a short flight to four nights on Zanzibar's east coast.
It's the combination most first-time visitors end up wanting once they realise how much a week of early starts and dusty game drives takes out of you — and how well a few days doing absolutely nothing on white sand fixes that.

Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, with the rest of the day free to rest before an early start into the bush tomorrow.
A drive of a little under two hours south-west into Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive. Tarangire holds some of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania during the dry months, and its centuries-old baobab trees give the park a distinct character.

The route climbs across the Ngorongoro highlands before dropping onto the Serengeti's plains, with game viewing continuing along the way. The scale of the place — 14,750 square kilometres, much of it visible to the horizon at once — is the first thing that strikes most visitors.
A full day to explore the Serengeti properly, with morning and afternoon game drives covering different parts of the ecosystem depending on where the wildlife currently is. This is usually the day that produces the trip's most memorable sightings.

An early game drive before the drive up to the Ngorongoro highlands and down onto the crater floor itself — a self-contained ecosystem of grassland, swamp and soda lake holding an estimated 25,000 large mammals within 260 square kilometres. Lion, buffalo and wildebeest are common across the open floor, and the crater remains one of the last strongholds of the black rhino.
A final Tanzanian sunrise over the highlands before the drive back to Arusha for a short domestic flight to Zanzibar. Stepping off the plane into the island's humid, spice-scented air is as clear a signal as any that the trip has changed gears — from dust and game drives to white sand and the Indian Ocean.

A free day to do as much or as little as you like. The beaches along Zanzibar's east coast are calm, shallow and lined with palm trees, and the resort's own facilities — pool, spa, watersports — are all on hand if you'd rather not leave the grounds at all.
Another open day on the island. Popular add-ons at this point in the trip include a spice farm tour, a half-day trip into Stone Town, snorkelling or diving on the nearby reefs, or simply more time on the beach — let us know if you'd like any of these arranged.
Your last full day on the island. Many guests use this final afternoon for a sunset dhow cruise — a traditional wooden sailing boat trip along the coast, timed to be on the water as the sun goes down over the Indian Ocean.

Transfer to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar for your departure flight, bringing the safari and beach combination to a close.
