12 Day Safari and Beach

12 Day Safari and Beach
Safari + Beach 12 Days / 11 Nights Zanzibar
Safari & Beach Package

Six days across Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and three nights in the Serengeti, then five nights on Zanzibar's beaches.

Twelve days built around a proper amount of time in both halves of the trip: six days on safari, including three full nights in the Serengeti rather than a single pass-through, followed by five nights on Zanzibar's east coast.

This is the version we point people to when they don't want to feel rushed on either side of the trip — enough safari to actually settle into the rhythm of game drives, and enough beach afterwards that it doesn't feel like an afterthought.

The price below is a starting point and moves with season, group size and accommodation level, from comfortable mid-range properties up to Ultra Luxury picks like Melia Serengeti and Royal Zanzibar. Tell us your dates and numbers and we'll quote it properly.

Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, with the rest of the day free to settle in ahead of an early start.

Overnight: Arusha Planet Lodge / Mount Meru Hotel / Gran Melia, depending on tierMeal Plan: Dinner and breakfast

A drive of a little under two hours south-west into Tarangire National Park for an afternoon game drive among its elephant herds and centuries-old baobab trees.

Overnight: Farm of Dreams / Escarpment / Ngorongoro Oldeani, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

An early descent onto the crater floor brings you into one of the most concentrated wildlife arenas in Africa — roughly 25,000 large mammals within 260 square kilometres of grassland, swamp and soda lake. Lion, buffalo and wildebeest are common across the open floor, and the crater remains one of the last strongholds of the black rhino.

Lunch at the Hippo PoolThe Ngoitokitok picnic site sits beside a resident hippo pod — a good spot for the crater's birdlife too.
Overnight: Farm of Dreams / Escarpment / Ngorongoro Oldeani, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

The drive continues into the Serengeti, with the scale of the place — 14,750 square kilometres, much of it visible to the horizon at once — setting in almost immediately after arrival.

Overnight: Tukaone Serengeti / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

A full day exploring the Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives covering different parts of the ecosystem depending on where the wildlife currently is.

Overnight: Tukaone Serengeti / Olkarien Eco Safari Camp / Melia Serengeti, depending on tierMeal Plan: Full board

With three full nights here, your guide has room to range further, following recent sightings from other vehicles and camps rather than working to a single fixed loop.

The drive back to Arusha and a short domestic flight to Zanzibar. Landing on the island after a week of dust and game drives is a genuine change of pace — the humid air, the smell of cloves and cardamom, and the Indian Ocean waiting at the end of the runway.

Overnight: Zanzibar Queen / Ocean Paradise Resort / Royal Zanzibar, depending on tierMeal Plan: Bed and breakfast

A free day on the island. The beaches along Zanzibar's east coast are calm, shallow and lined with palm trees, and most resorts have their own pool, spa and watersports on site if you'd rather not leave the grounds.

Overnight: Zanzibar Queen / Ocean Paradise Resort / Royal Zanzibar, depending on tierMeal Plan: Bed and breakfast

Another open day. Popular add-ons at this stage include a spice farm tour, snorkelling or diving on the nearby reefs, or a half-day exploring Stone Town's old town and market — let us know if you'd like any of these arranged.

Overnight: Zanzibar Queen / Ocean Paradise Resort / Royal Zanzibar, depending on tierMeal Plan: Bed and breakfast

With five nights on the island, there's real room to slow down completely — this is usually the day guests describe as the one they actually planned nothing for, and were glad of it.

Overnight: Zanzibar Queen / Ocean Paradise Resort / Royal Zanzibar, depending on tierMeal Plan: Bed and breakfast

Your last full day on the island. A popular way to close out the trip is a sunset dhow cruise — a traditional wooden sailing boat trip along the coast, timed to be on the water as the sun goes down.

12 Day Safari and Beach — Frequently Asked Questions

Do we fly or drive between the safari and Zanzibar?
Fly — it's a short domestic flight (around 1.5 hours) between Arusha and Zanzibar, which we arrange as part of the package.
What's the difference between the accommodation tiers?
The tiers reflect the lodges, camps and beach resort used throughout — the route and vehicle on safari are identical across all three, and the beach nights simply move up from a comfortable 3-star property to a top-tier resort.
Is 5 nights in Zanzibar too much?
Not for most people — it's enough time to properly decompress after a week of early starts, and enough to fit in optional extras like Stone Town or a spice tour without it feeling packed.
