Arusha National Park is the closest proper safari park to Arusha town, and one of only a handful in Tanzania where you can actually get out of the vehicle and walk. It's a good fit if you're short on time, arriving or departing the same day, or just want a genuine taste of the bush without committing to a multi-day safari.
The park's small size works in its favour — walking safari, game drive and a crater viewpoint all fit comfortably into a single day, with giraffe, buffalo, colobus monkeys and flamingos on the Momella Lakes all realistic sightings.

An early pick-up from your hotel in Arusha, with the park gate only around 45 minutes away — one of the shortest drives to any park on the northern circuit, which is exactly why it works so well as a day trip.
Arusha National Park is one of the few parks in Tanzania where walking safaris are allowed. Accompanied by an armed ranger on foot, you'll move through acacia woodland and open glades at close range to giraffe, buffalo and warthog, with your ranger explaining tracks, dung and the smaller details a vehicle usually drives straight past.

Back in the vehicle, the drive continues past the Momella Lakes — a series of shallow, alkaline lakes that regularly draw flamingos, and often giraffe and buffalo along their edges — with Mount Meru and, on a clear day, Kilimanjaro visible in the distance. A stop at the Ngurdoto Crater viewpoint rounds out the drive.
A relaxed drive back into Arusha town, arriving at your hotel in the mid-to-late afternoon.
