About Mount Meru

Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano rising just north of Arusha — Tanzania's second-highest peak after Kilimanjaro, and the highest point in the region that carries its name. Its most recent eruption was in 1910, and a summit collapse thousands of years ago left behind the dramatic ash cone and crater rim you walk along near the top. On a clear day, the summit view takes in Kilimanjaro itself, 70km to the east.
